Magical Self-Separating Jello

SKU:
Jello in some form is an Asian-American potluck staple.
This my friend Alice’s particularly easy version.

Mix everything together, pour it in a pan, toss it in the fridge, Somehow it magically forms two equal layers, and holds its shape well, even in hot weather.

Ingredients

Pam or other cooking spray
3 small boxes of one kind of your Jello OR

1 large box/6 oz and 1 small box/3 oz

3 packets of Knox gelatin

3 cups boiling water
1 cup of heavy whipping cream

What To Do

Spray a little Pam or cooking spray of choice on an 8" x 8" Pyrex dish.

Mix boxes of Jello with Knox gelatin while dry because Knox gelatin on its own doesn’t dissolve easily. Otherwise you’ll get unsightly clumps of not-flavored gelatin.

Add 2 cups boiling water and stir to make sure that the Knox and Jello have completely dissolve. Add remaining 1 cup of boiling water and stir well.

Add whipping cream and stir. You do not need to wait for Jello mixture to cool. Pour into Pyrex dish and toss it in the refrigerator. The mixture will separate all by itself as it starts cooling.

Notes and Talking Story

  • This is a great finger food, and is sturdy enough to hold without sliding all over.
  • So, so much easier to make than 7-layer jello, its high-maintenance cousin, and still score layered Jello points
