tofu steaks

Picture
This is based on a Sam Choy recipe, but I punched up the spices I like (garlic, basil, sesame oil), and tossed the ones I don’t (ginger-ick!). One of the best parts about this is that unlike meat, you can use the leftover sauce on the tofu after grilling.

1 block of firm tofu, sliced into 8 slabs
3-4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
3t garlic chili sauce (Sriracha sauce is OK too)
3T fresh basil, cut into ribbons
3T fresh cilantro, finely chopped
1-2T sesame oil
3T shoyu

Let the tofu sit for about 15 minutes to let some of the water drain out. Mix all spices together and marinate the tofu, ideally all afternoon, but for at least 30 minutes. Grill until crispy on the outside and warm and squishy on the inside.
