On the plus side, I really scrutinize what I eat and whether it is worth the effort to brush, rinse and floss afterwards.
On the blatantly renegade side (OK, for the suburbs, people!), I have also learned to eat malted robins' eggs, Reese's Pieces, and French fries without popping any wires.
I tried to be good, so here is what we are eating this week.
Monday was #MeatlessOneDay
Hot and Sour Soup. A good, comforting, light, spicy, vinegar-ey soup was just the thing for a windy Monday and out-of-control allergies.
Tuesday
Chicken salad sandwiches on toasted King's sweetbread, with leftover pine nuts from the weird watermelon salad. Sauteed spinach and baked sweet potatoes meant appropriate color balance achieved on this meal.
Wednesday
Christine's Clam Chowder. What's not to love about a quart of half-and-half?! We may never buy canned clam chowder ever again.
Experiments Thursday
General Tso's Stir-fried Veggies with leftover chicken. I found this from Food Network Canada, and used the only the sauce part. Cooked onions in ginger and garlic, then added green beans and red and orange sweet peppers. Dumped the sauce into the wok with some leftover chicken. It makes kind of a spicy sweet-and-sour sauce. This is a winner.
Cooking by Birdie Friday
My birdie-still-in-the-nest has declared that he will make Teriyaki Chicken for dinner. Birdie #2 has become quite skilled in making fancy grilled cheese sandwiches, eggs and Lean Cuisine. I'm looking forward to coming home to a hot meal.
Aloha from the 'burbs.
