Last week, I had the opportunity to pack pears at the Second Harvest Cypress Center. I learned that in the rarefied valley with the likes of Facebook, Tesla, Cisco, Apple, HP, and Intel (to name only the biggies) one in four people is struggling to make ends meat. And that in Second Harvest's most recent fiscal year, they distributed more than one million pounds of nutritious food via 700 distribution sites each week in every zip code of their service area from Daly City to Gilroy.
