My dad went throw-net fishing in Kahala on most weekends when I was a kid. So we were lucky to eat a lot of really fresh fish as part of our 'normal' diet. Now I aim to have fish once a week. I try for variety--butterfish, opakakpaka (when I can get it), salmon, halibut, cod, tuna, the occasional monkfish and Petrale sole. When we go home to Hawaii, we also eat kumu, moi, mullet, weke, ono, aku-bones, saba, and of course, sashimi!

I try to adhere the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood and Sashimi Guide (California and Hawaii). A healthy respect for the ocean is a beautiful thing.
