Where has Feeding My Ohana been?! I spent last week back home in good ole' Leeward O'ahu. Offline.

Although my friends gave me grief for not having a smart phone, and I did have to seek out a Starbuck's for WiFi to my iPad for directions to get together with the above-noted friends, it was very relaxing not to be online-all-the-time. Everyone should do this once in awhile.

Here is a quick summary on what we've been eating--here and at Mom's house. While we had plenty of vegetables, there was no meatless any day. We were on vacation, after all.

Bay Area Monday
Yakisoba. I cam home with yet another head cold, so this was made by the husband. This is my son's favorite meal, and soon we'll have to start making three packages.

Crispy wonton and roast pork.
Great Aloha Run Day
Crispy wonton, roast pork, and pork with sweet and sour cabbage. I also introduced the family to Co-worker Kale Salad. Mom approves.

Bay Area Tuesday
Carbonara Hironaka. We've not eaten this in a really long time and it was nice to come home to this.

Day at the Beach
Sanny's Hamburgers and Gravy. Homemade plate lunch.

Back in the Bay Area Takeout Wednesday
Yiassoo Greek Food, Tapioca Express and Whole Foods Chocolate Cake. Procured by my fabulous husband.

Thursday
Unfried Baked Chicken from People Magazine. It was very peppery and a little too salty. This is a good idea that needs some re-tooling. Stay tuned.

Weird Rainy and Windy Hawaii Day
For the last two days of our vacation, it poured. Buckets. So it was Mom's Watercress Soup, but made with kale, and just as good. Watercress can be tricky to get in the Bay Area, so this was good advice from Mom.

Leeward Drive Inn, very retouched
Glorious Hawaii Beach Day
Leeward Drive Inn Fried Noodles. Just a satisfying lunch after a morning at the beach. Please note they don't make mandoo anymore, but the Pork Cutlet and Gravy is still fab. And remember, it has and will always be cash only.

Back to the Mainland, but definitely keeping the Hawaii vibe going as long as we can.

Aloha Friday All!

Rainboots in June. SJ Sharks color of course!
It didn't just drizzle today. It poured. For the Bay Area in June, this is just plain weird. This is fitting, considering Monday's meal.

Monday
Leftover Group Project Dinner. 3 large pizzas, half a watermelon, a bag of chips, 2 dozen cookies, a gallon of juice and 7 teenagers came over for lunch and a group project.

1 entire pizza was left. How is this even possible? 6 of them were girls, and the boy left early. They are coming back tomorrow, so I'll need to stock up again.

Perfect purple rice
Tuesday
Korean Chicken Soup, kim chee and purple rice. Perfect for a soggy post-rainy day in June. We'll see how the group project kids feel about this meal! Plan B for the teenagers is a full loaf of bread, roasted turkey and Havarti cheese.

Wednesday
Even when I go out to dinner, I still like to make sure the teenagers and the husband don't starve. So Grandma Nancy's Braised Beef is perfect because they can manage the final 15 minutes in the oven. Even better, a Facebook-Feeding-My-Ohana pal does this in a crock pot. And she will send me her cooking instructions for this method soon. Hint, hint.

Thursday
Salmon and Grape Sauce. This has been lounging in the Greenhouse for far too long. Salmon and grapes are in season. I also have a kale salad recipe that sounds too good not to try. It's kale, walnuts, cranberries and feta cheese.

Friday
Chicken Adobo, salad and rice. Just something simple to finish out a weird week.

I've gotten new recipes from my clients today, so we'll have to queue those up this week sometime too.

Eat Well. Be Well.

When the kids are out of school, our schedule streeetccchhheees out. Dinners get late. Dinner "planning" gets very lax. This should be pretty obvious right now as our weekly menu is finally getting posted and it's practically Tuesday.

We're going for very simple prep and one-bowl salads meals this week.

Monday--Pistachi-zu Tofu, yet another last-minute experiment. Plus rice and salad with some leftover chicken tossed in. Practically meatless dinner.

Picture
Wednesday--Somen salad, using the from-scratch char siu I made awhile back, and maybe one of the first cukes from the garden (fingers crossed), and definitely more home-grown lettuce.

Thursday--Quinoa salad. By Thursday, laziness should be at its apex.

Plate Lunch Friday--Bulgogi, Hawaii Homestyle Macaroni Salad, some grilled corn and a salad. I'm aiming for Friday, but this will probably end up as the Father's Day meal.

Enjoy the sheer laziness that summer brings. Eat Well. Be Well.
